On-line Survey of Data Collection Networks
Southwestern Association of
Alert Systems
2001-2007 Membership List
An idea was presented at the conference which may impact the entire ALERT community. The ALERT users' groups were originally formed as regional organizations in which ALERT users could share their knowledge. Over the years, a number of things have occurred which have expanded the scope of the groups (national issues such as NWS modernization, FCC narrow-banding, etc). The conferences have expanded to cover this scope, to the point of neglecting some of the original purpose of the groups. National issues are important, but so are the regional ones. The idea is to return to the basics of regional issues and hardware/software operational and maintenance issues at the regional conferences. These should be low cost conferences, which could be held every 2 years (even numbered years). The national issues could be addressed at a single national conference, which would be held every 2 years, staggered from the regional meetings (odd numbered years) and alternately held in the various regions. For this concept to fully work, other users' groups will need to agree with the scheduling concept.
This idea could be the first step in restructuring our separate organizations into a single, unified national organization (with regional chapters). A committee will be forming soon to further investigate this idea. If you are interested in participating on this committee or if you would just like to voice your thoughts on the issue, please contact the SAAS President as soon as possible.

Active members may vote and hold office in SAAS. An ASSOCIATE membership is available to any individual who is interested in supporting the objectives of SAAS ($10 annual fee). Associate members may vote, but may not hold office in SAAS. CORPORATE membership is available for vendors of ALERT hardware, software, systems engineering, contract operations & maintenance, etc. (see conference fees above).
